After discussions with many of parents at parents evening last week, and with lots of you wishing to further support your child at home (which is fabulous!), I thought it would be useful to upload our calculation policy. This gives you an idea of how addition, subtraction, multiplication and division is taught in Year 3, alongside some of the language that we use, especially around regrouping and exchanging of 1s, 10s and 100s.
Alongside the formal written methods, which are shown below, we do also encourage children to be flexible with number and use the most efficient methods to answer calculations: whether that be bridging to 10, partitioning numbers, compensating numbers, being fluent in their times tables or using other strategies that the children themselves come up (this is always my favourite!).
