Year 3 Home Learning



Good morning 3O! I hope you all had a lovely weekend, and managed to enjoy a little bit of sunshine! smiley 


Welcome to your new classroom for the next couple of days! It's a little bit of a strange Monday us not all being together but don't worry we will all be back together having fun very soon!  smiley

Last week we began looking at measure didn't we. We looked at measuring in CMs and Ms and MMs and even looked at converting between M and CMS (can you remember how many CMs there are in a M?). Well this morning we are going to be looking at converting between CMs and MMs - which I know you will all be amazing at! smiley

English - The Lost Happy Endings


This week we are going to be looking at writing an alternative ending to our story "The Lost Happy Endings". 

First of all, I would like you to listen to the story being told again and think about how Jub saved the "Happy Endings". 

The Lost Happy Endings by Carol Ann Duffy and Jane Ray

Can you remember what Jub used to defeat the witch? What happened at the end? 


That's correct, she used the magic pen didn't she and wrote her own versions. What I would like you to do now is to think of a different magical object that Jub could have used - e.g. an apple, cage to overthrow the witch's powers. I would like you to draw your object out and think about how it could be used to stop the witch.

Now it's time to plan our ideas out!


I chose to change the object to a juicy, red apple that would trick the witch into eating it, which when she did would cast a sleeping spell on her. Now I need to think about how I can make this into a story.

I would now like you to have a go at planning your own ideas out. Remember this isn't your whole story so you don't need to write your ideas out in full sentences. Think about what information would need to go under each heading, and what action will need to take place to make it an exciting story.


The plan is attached below, you can download it and print it off if you wish to smiley Don't do the adverbs and verbs section as we will look at this tomorrow! smiley


Safety Session - keeping ourselves safe in the water!


Have a little look through the powerpoint below, which is all about how we can keep ourselves safe when in water. Then I would like you to design me a safety poster which includes:


- tips on how to stay safe

- dangers to look out for when near water

- advice on what to do if we see someone in danger



Art - Alaa Awaad


If you would like to have a go at creating another piece of artwork in the style of Alaa Awaa you may do. Remember all the tips we discussed last week about perspective and trying to create the printing effect by building the same image up on top of each other. You might want to change the Ancient Egyptian image you use this time round. 


Think also about the background, can you create a fading sunset using the pinks, reds, oranges, purples as they go from darker to lighter shades. Remember also about your colouring stroke, if you have start horizontally then all strokes must be horizontal if you start vertically then all your strokes must continue to go vertically.
