Place value

This half term, we are focusing on number and place value. We have been comparing and ordering values of numbers beyond 1,000.

We then looked at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000, discussing strategies on how to work out whether a number rounds up or down.

As well as counting in 1,000's we have been looking at adding and subtracting 1,000 more or 1,000 less to a number. We noticed that the ones, the tens and the hundreds place values never change.

Finally, we have looked at Roman numerals, building numbers using the 7 letters that make up Roman numerals.

Over the year, we will also be focusing on learning our times tables. Our aim is to know all times tables facts up to 12 x 12!

Addition and subtraction

We have looked at new written methods of calculation for addition and subtraction.

Using the column methods, we have worked out what to do when needing to exchange values to find the answers.
