Following Ben, a young boy who enjoys fishing, we journey under the water to discover the mysteries of a kelp forest.
The children used the setting to create detailed descriptions about the ocean landscape using complex sentences.
We also rewrote the story in their own narrative, focusing on developing the use of direct speech in our work.
For this unit of work, we used a short animated film called 'The Lighthouse'. We learnt specific vocabulary about the parts of the lighthouse and used these in our recounts of the lighthouse keepers day.
We also looked into ways of using expanded noun phrases to help create a good description of the stormy sea.
