We began the New Year looking at a beautifully illustrated picture book about a young boy who loves winter. He meets Winter's Child and together they play across a snowy landscape until Spring arrives.
Using the pictures as inspiration we built up to writing a description of the winter forest. Before writing, we looked at good uses of expanded noun phrases and subordinate clauses and fronted adverbials to create complex sentences.
The Polar Bear Explorers' Club
This next book takes us up to the end of Spring 1. Following the adventures of young explorer, Stella Starflake Pearl, we will write a diary entry explaining one of her encounters and a newspaper report about a previous expedition.
