Year 6 enjoyed a visit to the British Heritage Centre on Tuesday morning. They took part in a variety of team challenges including a quiz and a balloon building challenge.

Monday 28th November - Friday 2nd December

This week 6B have been working hard on their DT project. They have been tasked with designing, making and evaluating a tote bag. There are certainly some impressive sewing skills!

We also enjoyed the maths morning. We created a challenge for Mr. Wilkinson to solve and we also created times table themed games for our year 3 buddies to play.

Monday 21st November - Friday 25th November

This week we met with our year 3 buddies to share our 'Mirror' books. It was lovely to see the year 3 children share their stories with increased confidence. Our year 6 buddies are doing a great job.

We have also been exploring what life was like for an evacuee during World War II. We looked at what items would be packed in a suitcase and why some were very important. We also thought about whether all evacuees had similar experiences.

Life as an Evacuee

Monday 14th November - Friday 18th November

This week we enjoyed a 'Macrophotography' lesson which involved looking at objects 'zoomed in' and trying to firstly identify them and then draw them. Take at look at some of our drawings below.

We have also continued reading our English text, 'Letters from the Lighthouse'. This week we were comparing the two settings of London City and Budmouth Point village. We created word banks and then wrote contrasting setting descriptions.

On Friday, we dressed up in yellow, spots and pj's for Children In Need. A few teddies made it into class for the day as well!

Children In Need

Monday 7th November - Friday 11th November

6B have really enjoyed celebrating our whole school Equality Week theme of 'Same but Different'.

Throughout the week we have;

  • presented home learning with the class
  • read and discussed 'Mirror' by Jeannie Baker
  • Researched another culture in Asia
  • Created their own 'Mirror' book
  • learned how to speak and write in different languages
  • watched presentations from parents
  • created artwork.

It has been a lovely week celebrating how the children at VPJS are the

'Same but Different'

Monday 31st October 2022- Friday 4th November 2022

A huge well done to year 6 this week for trying their best with their practice SAT's test papers. Was lovely to see the confidence as they demonstrated the learning they have already done.

As well as being super busy doing papers, we have also started our new English text 'Letters from the Lighthouse' which links with our topic of World War II. We had some fantastic discussions about the who, what, where, why, when of WWII and we know lots of key facts already.

Take a look at our mind maps and time lines below.
