What a way to end our first half term at VPJS! The children have been absolutely brilliant this week and have put 110% into all of their learning. In Art, we finished off our final Egyptian sunset pictures (pictures below) and they look phenomenal. In Maths, we have finished our unit on column addition and subtraction and the children have even asked me for extra questions to do at break time! In our Values and Attitudes sessions, we spoke about who in the class we respected (and why) to make a web of respect out of string. We loved hearing all of the lovely things that our friends had to say about us.

After the half term, we will be giving out homework on Spelling Shed and Maths Shed which will need to be completed along with the reading records and spelling sheets. We would really appreciate it if you could support your child with completing this. If there are any queries or concerns then please contact me through the office or come and speak to me at the end of the school day! smiley

Thank you all for your support this half term, have a lovely break!

Reader of the week:

Another week done in Year 3 as half term draws closer and closer! We have started to write a recount in the role of The Wishgranter and the children did some brilliant hotseating where we got to interview The Wishgranter. There were some amazing questions as well as some wonderful answers. In Maths, we have been doing column addition and subtraction with exchanging - our brains have had to work REALLY hard this week! We have looked at the regions of the UK in Geography and related this to our eight compass points.

Monday 3rd October - Friday 7th October

Achievers of the week:

Ayaan, Renad and Wilfy

Reader of the week:

Maira

Despite the wet weather (and lots of wet plays!) the children have coped really well and have produced some absolutely stunning work. In Maths, we have focused on addition and have even started column addition! All of the children have WOWed me with their exceptional understanding of this - well done 3G! In English, we have been using inverted commas and the children have done a brilliant job of reminding me not to call them 'speech marks'! In Art, we have painted our background for our Egyptian sunset picture ready to print our design onto next week. Our Geography has been labelling the different cities within the UK and learning about where they are.

Monday 26th September - Friday 30th September
Achievers of the week:

Rose, Mikail and Isa

It was so lovely to meet so many of you on Tuesday at Meet The Teacher! If you didn't manage to come, the PowerPoint is on the main page under 'Welcome to Year 3' as I know many parents were requesting that we make it available online.

In other news, we have had another fabulous week. In Maths, we finished our unit on Place Value and started our new unit of Addition and Subtraction. In English, we wrote up our adventure stories and they are absolutely fantastic! A brilliant first piece for Year 3. In Art, we got a bit messy and experimented with polystyrene tiles to print in the style of Alaa Awad. We can't wait to paint our final piece in a few weeks!

Monday 19th September - Friday 23rd September

Achievers of the week:

Lilah, Abdul and Molly

A very busy week yet again at VPJS! This week we have continued to develop our knowledge of place value in Maths and have began to look at estimating numbers on a number line. We went outside and drew HUGE number lines on the playground with chalk - our partners then had to guess which number would be at different positions on the line! We've also started writing our own adventure stories in English and some brilliant plots are starting to emerge. In Geography we've looked at our local area and had a look at some pictures of Stretford from the past.

Just a reminder that 'meet the teacher' is on Tuesday after school - we will discuss what your child will be learning throughout the year as well as our expectations of them. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.

Lilah

Another amazing week in Year 3! We've really had to put our thinking caps on this week as we've continued to expand our knowledge on place value in Maths. In English, we've started our new topic 'Taking Flight' and the children designed some fabulous characters for their own adventure stories. They also wrote some incredible expanded noun phrases to describe their characters. I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing the children grow in confidence in their second week and some brilliant personalities are starting to shine through! Have a look at some of the learning we've been doing this week.

Wow - what a FANTASTIC first week we have had at VPJS! The children have settled in so beautifully, I am so proud of each and every one of them. In English, we have been reading the book 'Ruby's Worry' and discussing how it feels to have a worry as well as what we can do about it. In Maths, we have been looking at place value - a lot of mathematicians in 3G! We have also chosen a library book and practiced our singing in our Music lessons by singing 'Let Your Spirit Shine'. Feel free to have a look at some of our pictures from our jam-packed week. Early nights all around for 3G tonight!
