4 CHAIR'S STATEMENT - Sarah Baker (Chair of Governors)
I have been a Governor at Victoria Park Junior School since April 2024 and being appointed to the position of Chair in January 2024 is a huge privilege and source of pride.
Our school has a strong set of positive values, embodied by everyone in school including governors, staff and children. These underpin our teaching and learning as well as supporting children to become happy, healthy and effective citizens who develop a life-long love of learning.
We are an active Governing Body with a diverse set of skills and experience and we help to develop the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school. We work closely with staff so that we have a good understanding of all the school, including all subjects. We do this through discussing their subject development plans and also play the role of 'critical friend' - challenging where necessary. There are also numerous opportunities to participate in school life, including attending the many wonderful events and performances.
With our values remaining at the heart of our school, our priorities continue to be supporting our staff, parents/carers and children, reflecting on what we are doing well, current issues in education and where we can improve our already good school.

Does not undertake any external consultancy, paid work, or contractual activity that could give rise to a conflict of interest with my responsibilities as a governor. Professional role does not involve commercial sales, procurement influence, or supplier relationships that could intersect with school governance. Has no business or financial interests that could compromise, or be perceived to compromise, my ability to act impartially and in the best interests of the governing board. Responsibilities have included monitoring and management, analysing, of multi-million pound budget, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and value‑for‑money principles. |
